John Williams

John Williams is the most recognized name in film music. His scores are so well-known that just a few lines from one of his theme songs almost immediately places the listener into the scene of the movie. For example, the two note theme for Jaws re-creates one of the shark scenes in the minds of many. The Imperial March is yet another example. How could Darth Vader enter the scene without the Imperial March? These songs are so closely connected to the movies that they actually become a part of the movie.

Not only has John Williams captured the attention of the American people (and the world) but the film industry has recognized his accomplishments as well. He has been nominated for some 49 Academy Awards. John Williams has captured the art of storytelling with his music.

The Gayageum or Kayagum is a Korean stringed instrument with a distinctly Asian sound. The Gayageum is typically associated with Sanjo music which is a Korean style of music. Sanjo music starts off with a slow rhythm, but by the end, the rhythm becomes quite fast. This effect is intended to create excitement from the audience.

The instrument is made of a harder wood like walnutand has anywhere from 13-25 steel strings. The North Korean version has 21 strings. The Gayageum has been dated as far back as the 1st century.

At Jessica's Piano Studio, we realize that your days are filled with activities! That's why we find wonderful teachers throughout the Tampa Bay and Greenville areas for our students. Our goal is to have a teacher as close to you as we can - five minutes down the road, if possible!

Not only does this model help our students, but it also helps our teachers. Many of our teachers are able to use their own in-home studio and get a break from taxes. We love having benefits for both our music students

If you are looking for piano lessons in Tampa, FL, our current piano teachers work in the Lutz, Temple Terrace, Spring Hill, Weeki Wachee and Wesley Chapel areas. And for piano lessons in Greenville, SC, you can find our talented piano teachers near Taylors, and East North. We also offer guitar lessons in North Greenville.

Teacher Pay Based on Location

2/17/2014

At Jessica's Piano Studio, our goal is to attract the best music teachers. So, when it comes to figuring out prices for our teachers, we don't want our teachers to have to compete with each other. We want to create an environment where teachers receive a fair pay for their work.

Some online music studios list different prices for each teacher--even though the teachers are in the same area. Although this may seem like a good idea, The good teachers tend to get frustrated because they feel like they have to compete with the pricing of every other teacher in their area.

Since our goal is to attract great music teachers, even the way we set up our teacher's pay reflects our philosophy.

Valentine's Day

My favorite Valentine's Day song is the Irish Tenors version of "Some say Love".

Some say love it is a river
That drowns the tender reed.
Some say love it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed.

Some say love it is a hunger
An endless, aching need
I say love it is a flower,
And you it's only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance

It's the one who won't be taken,
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live.

And the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long.
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong.

Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed that with the sun's love,
In the spring, becomes a rose.

Condoleeza Rice: The Musician

2/10/2014

Condoleeza Rice--the former Secretary of State--had ambitions of becoming a world-class pianist. By the age of 15 she had already performed with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. Although her musical ambitions never came to complete fruition, her musical background has helped her to accomplish some pretty impressive objectives. In fact, there are a number of great Americans who have utilized their musical background. So what is it about music that prepares individuals for life? There is a lot of debate whether it is the discipline of practice or the mental acuteness developed through playing notes in rhythm. In reality, it is probably a number of factors. Music is a great means to developing young minds!

To this day, Ms. Rice regularly meets with a band of friends to practice and perform classical music.

Dean Zimmer: The Drummer

Dean Zimmer has become a bit of a phenomenon these days. He is a gifted drummer who plays with a great deal of passion and skill. Although those attributes are rare, what has set him apart is his ability to overcome his physical limitations. Dean is truly an inspiration! His hands are deformed and he uses a wheelchair to get around, but none of these things keep him from doing what he loves.

This video chronicles a reply to an ad for a drummer. Dean actually struggled up a flight of stairs to respond to the ad.

Ever thought about quitting? I think Dean Zimmer will motivate you to continue on in your passion
