Whenever Amazon launches a new product people take notice. On Monday, Amazon announced that they would act as a middleman by providing home services like music lessons and home cleaning. Unfortunately, Amazon has decided to create a new position--an extra middleman. They are going to be working with companies like Takelessons and Taskrabbit. Instead of paying the service provider directly, Amazon plans to take a 10%-20% cut.
In the end, the person doing the work takes another pay cut. For example, a music teacher working for Takelessons will now have 2 middlemen--Amazon and Takelessons. This model reinforces the importance of what we are doing here at Jessica's Piano Studio. Our goal has always been the same--to get the money into the hands of the service provider and eliminate the middleman as much as possible.

Jessica's Piano Studio is turning 2! We officially launched on January 27, 2013. Many of our students from December of 2012 through March of 2013 are still with us today.
Jessica's Piano Studio started with one simple concept -- create a teacher-friendly music studio. Our goal was to attract exceptional music teachers. We started by slashing overhead expenses so that we could pay our teachers more. Then we allowed teachers to run their own schedule. These two simple choices enabled us to pay our teachers 80%! Now it's time to show our appreciation to you. Many of you have been with us from the early days. You were patient as we experimented with different payment options and studio policies. You endured the trial and error. Thank you! On January 27, 2015, Jessica's Piano Studio will select two students to receive 3 months of free music lessons (February-April 2015). In order to apply, a parent or legal guardian must submit a video to Jessica's piano studio of the student performing a song. Students may enter the contest twice by submitting two separate videos. Looking for a piano? Piano Distributors in Carrollwood, FL is a great place to start. They are located on North Dale Mabry in the Outback Steakhouse plaza. They have an electric piano for under $2,000 for beginner students and a good selection of mid-grade pianos for some of our advanced students.
Jessica and I spent some time at their shop last week and met some of the staff. They were polite and informative. They even open up their store for recitals. If you have any questions, or would just like to take a look at some pianos feel free to check them out at www.pianodistributors.com Piano Distributors welcomes trade-ins on any new piano purchase. When you purchase a new piano from Piano Distributors, you will be able to receive 100% of your original piano purchase price towards a piano upgrade, anywhere from 1 to 5 years later, depending on the original model purchased. Andrew Peterson, a song-writer, performer, and author, will be performing at Keystone Bible Church in Odessa, FL on Sept. 24th. The tickets are free, but you will need to reserve your spot by going to Keystone's website. Andrew will be singing and playing on his acoustic guitar. Andrew is well-known for his children's book The Wingfeather saga. In 2012, Andrew released the album "Light for the Lost Boy" to high reviews. Previously, his album "Counting Stars" debuted at #1 on ITunes and #6 on I have an upright piano that belonged to my grandfather which I desire to give away to a student. Both my father and grandfather learned on this piano and I have many warm memories of tinkering on it as a child. It has been in my home, unused for the last 15 years. As it is a family heirloom, I hate to get rid of it… however, I am moving into a home that does not have the space to accommodate it. As it has sentimental value to me, I thought it would be a tribute to my family if another generation could learn on it, perhaps get the same joy from it. Therefore, I wanted to offer it as a gift to a family who would take care of it.This Sohmer &Co piano is circa 1900 (or so I've been told). It comes with the bench, which has been recently refinished to match the stain on the piano. The bench top is not attached, yet the piano hinges are on the body of the bench. It would only need a screwdriver and a few screws. The piano keys all work and all the strings and hammers are in good condition. One of the peddles is loose. This piano is in good well loved condition. The person who adopts it will be responsible for picking it up and moving it out of my home into theirs. This piano is heavy. The dimensions are approximately 62”wide, 53”high and 27”deep.Please feel free to contact me via email or text me at 813-391-3043. I will promptly respond to all inquiries.
Sincerely,Lisa Tampa Bay Music Academy is starting a concert band for homeschoolers in the Tampa Bay area this fall. There will be a beginner class for 4th - 6th graders and an intermediate class for 6th - 12th grade. The concert will include Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, and Percussion.
Registration has already started, so you will want to sign up as soon as possible. The first class is scheduled for Friday August 22. For tuition costs and more information check out their website at http://tampabaymusicacademy.com/concert-band-program/ At our household, everyone gets a heavy dose of music. Jessica, the founder of Jessica's Piano Studio incorporates music for just about everything. When the boys are starting to get frustrated with each other--the classical music starts getting piped in. On long trips when everyone is ready to be there--the music kicks in. At bed time--against Micaiah's orders--the classical music is played.
The default setting at our household is "let's play some music". No wonder our boys find it completely natural to sit at the piano and bang out a simple tune while they sing--even at 22 months! Looking back, I probably should have expected it. What else would you imagine a piano pedagogy major doing with her children? In all honesty, I wouldn't want it any other way. Our children are growing up with a love and appreciation for music. Not only do they hear it all the time, it actually affects them. By the way, anyone can introduce their children to the world of music. All you need to do is make a conscious effort to have music going all the time--it just happens more naturally at our home :) If you've never been to Giftrocket.com, you are missing out. They have simplified the gift card process (and made is safer).
Have you ever wondered whether your gift card was lost? The way giftrocket.com does it, you wont have to worry about that again. You can find and purchase gift cards for any location using the link on the pricing page (or on this post). |
